More than 1,000 wine enthusiasts including 600 top wine trade and media from 35 states and 9 countries, flocked to Napa Valley this weekend for the best wine ticket in town. Premiere Napa Valley, now in it’s 17th year brings the wine world’s biggest names all to one place.

In this wine video, Wine Oh TV’s Monique Soltani interviews wine legends: Bo Barrett of Chateau Montelena, Tim Mondavi of Continuum Estate, Roger Harrison of Beringer Vineyards, Jean-Charles Boisset, President of Boisset Family Estates, along with Stephanie Putnam, Director of Winemaking at Raymond Vineyards, and John Taylor from Rocca Family Vineyards.

The annual wine event came close to beating last year’s record-breaking numbers bringing in $3.04 million. The auction’s 211 lots donated by 218 Napa Valley Vintners members were purchased in just over three hours of lively and spirited bidding at The Culinary Institute of America at Greystone. The average wholesale price per bottle sold was $160.75, an indicator of the rarity of Premiere Napa Valley wines, the demand for the limited 2011 vintage and the overall appreciation for the consistent quality wines produced in the region.

Bruce Cakebread, President & COO Cakebread Cellars/2013 President of the NVV’s Board of Directors

“We are grateful for the continued success of Premiere Napa Valley, which has allowed the NVV to expand its activities and programs, including our environmental leadership, outreach to the local community, our efforts to promote the appellation worldwide, and the vital protection of the Napa Valley name on a bottle of wine. We feel the quality of these programs is as stellar as the quality of our wines.”

Steven Spurrier, Award-Winning Author, Educator, & Organizer of the seminal 1976 ‘Judgment of Paris’ tasting.

“It was a mind-blowing tasting. There was so much energy and excitement in the room. And, I love the 2011’s – they are elegant, with a beautiful mid-palate…just my style.”

What is Premiere Napa Valley?

Founded in 1997, Premiere provides funding for the Napa Valley Vintners (NVV) to further its mission to promote, protect and enhance the Napa Valley appellation, its wines and its community. Revenue comes from the auctioning of rare, ultra-boutique, one-of-a-kind wines, crafted in as few as 60 bottles and never more than 240. For Napa Valley winemakers, Premiere is a chance to express something they have always wanted to convey in a wine in very limited production for this one moment in time and then never again. For attendees, it’s the chance to preview the vintage coming into market.

What is The Napa Valley Vintners? (NVV) is the non-profit trade association responsible for promoting and protecting the Napa Valley appellation as the premier winegrowing region. From seven founding members in 1944, today the association represents 450 Napa Valley wineries and collectively is a leader in the world-wide wine industry.
