Wineries that Give Back

Jordan Winery is keeping a running list of Jordan’s fire-related donations on their blog: https://blog.jordanwinery.com/2017/10/wine-country-wildfires-relief-helping-the-sonomastrong-community/. A significant portion of the proceeds from Jordan wine sales fund The John Jordan Foundation, which will be helping aid local schools and charities affected by the fires.

Between John Jordan’s donations, employees, wine bloggers who donated during the Wine Bloggers Conference and consumers who attended the Jordan Winery Christmas Party, Jordan Winery donated 1,720 pounds of toys! That includes 31 bicycles, a dozen scooters, and hundreds of games and other toys.

Cline Cellars Cashmere label makes flat donations several times a year to support breast cancer research and other causes.  To date more than $300,000 has been donated to organizations such as National Breast Cancer Foundation, Living Beyond Breast Cancer, Breast Cancer Network of Strength and most recently the Susan G. Komen, San Francisco. This year, $35,000 was donated to charities including fire relief funds, Susan G. Komen, and the YWCA (shelter for women and children).

Creative Hanukkah Food and Wine Pairing Guide

Wine Pairings by: Israel’s Golan Heights & Galil Mountain wineries & importer, Yarden Inc.

Dish: Sweet potato latkes and applesauce

Wine Pairing: Viognier

Dish: Zucchini latkes and sour cream

Wine Pairing: Chardonnay

Dish: Classic jelly doughnuts

Wine Pairing: Moscato

Potato latkes and sour cream paired with Gewurztraminer
“The spicy and off-dry notes of the gewurztraminer will accentuate the subtle spices of the latkes. The medium-bodied viscosity will work great with the cream.”
Potato latkes with applesauce paired with Sauvignon Blanc
“You will want a bit more acidity to go with the underlying acidity in the applesauce. The dryness of the sauvignon blanc will make the applesauce taste slightly sweeter; and the grass and herbal notes will bring out the earthiness of the potato.”
For the entire, free, menu of pairings, please see the guide here.
